Participatory Immigration Policy Making and Harmonization based on Collaborative Web2.0 Technologies

Collaboration between various stakeholders including politicians and decision makers, but also citizens and the civil society, is essential for an EU-wide harmonisation of immigration policies. Europeanisation of national migration policy - a study on changes in governing in Europe

This project analysed the strategies developed by EU member states to deal with international migration movements. It focused mainly on the question as to how the conditions of national policies are changed in the context of multilateral cooperation in the policy field of migration issues. The objective of the study was to contribute to the research into changes in governing in Europe. The hypothesis of the study is: transnational social processes, such as migratory movements, confront the closely interconnected EU member states with challenges concerning their ability to solve problems: dealing with these challenges leads to changes in governing even in core areas of nation-state sovereignty. The following questions structured the study: first, the motives are sought which have resulted in inter-state agreements to cooperate in migration-relevant matters. Then the cooperation was examined from a longitudinal perspective. What type of cooperation was agreed and how did it change in the course of time? Finally the question was raised as to whether solving problems at transnational level is compatible with democratic requirements.

European migration policy

This project analysed the cooperation of the EU member states in the area of migration policy "above" the level of the nation states, and the formation of a new level of policy formulation with the nation states of the EU. The project also examined the significance of migration policy for the difficulties and conflicts of the European unification process.
