frühstart II - Deutsch und interkulturelle Erziehung im Kindergarten (German language and Intercultural Education in the Kindergarten)

The project "frühstart - German and Intercultural Education in Kindergarten" aimed at establishing preconditions for integration and a successful school career of children in pre-school by means of language support, intercultural education and parental involvement. A particular target group were children with a migration background. In order to utilise synergy effects, create coherence and secure the sustainability of the project, a network of town and district administrations and elementary schools was created.

After the successful completion of the pilot phase, the project was extended in a modified form in September 2008 to 24 further Hessian day care centres. The efms evaluated the project in its modified form and in its realisation in the 24 newly participating day care centres and towns.

The purpose of the evaluation was to provide recommendations on the optimisation of the project as well as on the feasibility of a possible continuation or extension of the project.
