National Focal Point for Germany within the European Information Network on Racism and Xenophobia (RAXEN)

RAXEN (RAcism and XEnophobia Network) was founded in 2000 and is coordinated by the EUMC (European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia) in Vienna. From 1 March the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) became the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).

The RAXEN network consists of 27 so-called National Focal Points (NFPs), each one of them representing a EU Member State. The RAXEN National Focal Points are the FRA's main source of data and information on the situation concerning racism, xenophobia, antisemitism and related intolerances; their deliverables constitute at the national level the essential background material for the development of comparative reports and studies by the FRA at the European level. Since June 2001 the efms has been contracted as the National Focal Point for Germany.

The RAXEN reporting focuses on the following thematic fields:

  • Employment / labour market
  • Education
  • Housing market and housing situation
  • Health and social care
  • Legislation
  • Racist violence, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia

In addition, the National Focal Points compiles reports on various related topics (e.g. anti-discrimination bodies in Germany; Sinti and Roma in the education system).

Additionally, the data and information collected by the NFPs is available at the FRA Infoportal.

Since the beginning of 2005, the efms RAXEN Bulletin has been published on a regular basis. The bulletin reports on current events, studies and statistics on discrimination and xenophobia in Germany.
