Wolfgang Bosswick


Sociologist (Dipl.), studied sociology, social anthropology, economics, psychology and Latin American studies at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. Field studies in Mexico and the U.S.A. Until 1993 researcher at the Sozialwissenschaftliches Forschungszentrum Nürnberg (Centre of Social Sciences Research, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg), working in the DFG (German Research Society) project Asylum as a Relationship of Otherness on the situation of people entitled to asylum living in the Nuremberg metropolitan area. Co-founder and managing director of the efms, from 1996 until 2003 acting secretary of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration, member of the International Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Refugee Studies, Oxford University Press. Member of the Training Committee (until 2009) and the Financial Committee of the IMISCOE European Network of Excellence. Research Director of the european research group of the CLIP Network (Cities for Local Integration Policies). Country Expert for Germany in the IOM Independent Network of Labour Migration (LINET).

Areas of research

As a researcher, Wolfgang Bosswick works in the area of integration measures and policy as well as asylum, asylum policy and forced migration. As former managing director of the efms, he planned and managed efms research projects, represented the institute in various scientific networks at EU level, and has been in charge of the entire computer network and the institute's web site as well as the administration and accounting of the institute.
