SIRIUS (European Policy Network on the education of children and young people with a migrant background)
SIRIUS is a European Policy Network that focuses on the implementation of effective policies for equal educational opportunities for children with a migrant background in order to close the gap between them and their peers at schools. The core elements of the SIRIUS vision are organized in four groups, which are informed by the "Council Conclusions on the education of children with a migrant background". General quality of school system, Diversity in schools, Targeted measures for migrant pupils, Governance and mainstreaming
The policy network counts on the participation of experts on the field of migrant education throughout Europe. SIRIUS is the platform where researchers, policy makers and practitioners on migrant education share their knowledge and experiences and work together on policy implementation issues. The members are constituted of more than 30 institutions from over 15 countries.
The network was born on the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission but has the aim to continue after 2014, when the programme ends.
The efms is the National Coordinator for Germany, a member of the Steering Committee and Co-leader of Work Package 1 with the focus on networking and the implementation of policies in the participating countries.
